A Place to Dream- Child's Bedroom

This children's room was designed to be a magical space for imagination to run wild and one that could grow as she does. I wanted the "shell" to feel original and timeless knowing that furniture, art and layout will change over time.

The walls were created with a washing technique that mimics a watercolor painting. Sometimes they read blue, other times green or even grey with a natural shadowing. On top is a custom floral mural reminiscent of a Dr. Seuss design.

The furnishings are largely vintage.

  • Antique German sleigh bed, nautically painted Swedish armoire, Nordic Knots Climbing Vine rug and 1960s kangaroo basket harmonize to create a fairy tale interior that celebrate high and low design. Armoire, bed and basket were all sourced from Facebook Marketplace.

  • Vintage Brunschwig and Fils bamboo tapestry fabric was used for custom window treatment. 1980s shell chair has been recovered in a Chinoiserie cloud fabric.

  • Washed walls create a watercolor effect while the "doodled" floral garden mural adds a whimsical touch.

  • No detail was spared. The kid's kitchen has been wrapped in a handmade paper from Blick with lilypad wallpaper samples wraped on the sink.

  • Art is sparse in this bedroom, allowing the floral mural to shine. 1940s etching of a tree can be purchased here.

  • Bedding is from H&M in Sage Green. Similar bedding found here. Wall sconce is a vintage ceiling light fixture sourced from Etsy, reconfigured for wall use. Has a subtle star motif.
